Satellite Based Particulate Matter Test Case - Northern Italy -

As example of a downstream service linked to upstream input data and core-service input, the potential of monitoring Particulate Matter concentrations by combining direct satellite observatins with European meteorological and air quality data will be assessed.

This test case builds on the Northern Italian regional satellite-based PM service within PROMOTE/ESA and on the experience developed in QUITSAT/ASI project. It will assess the link to both meteorological and chemical auxiliary input from MACC.

As Particulate Matter is one critical parameter of air pollution, which is targeted by European legislation, its mapping and geo-saptial monitoring - not only at selected stations or through modelling - is highly needed.
